Bernard Hill Obituary

Bernard Monroe Hill, age 102, of Arcadia, IN passed away October 13, 2019 at Miller's Merry Manor at Tipton, IN.  He was born September 1, 1917 at Arcadia, IN to William F. and Nina Della (Mahaffey) Hill. 

He was a graduate of Arcadia High School with the Class of 1938.  Singing while in high school, he teamed with a friend and they became known as the Blue Valley Twins and they sang weekly on the radio.  Being musically inclined, he taught himself to play various instruments including the guitar, accordian, mandolin and organ. 

Being adventurous, at a young age he became a rider/driver for Lucky Teter shows.  He was working in the show when Lucky Teter was killed.  He rode motorcycles, snowmobiles, and became a boat captain.  While a teenager he earned a pilot's license and continued to fly until he was 80 years of age.  He flew several different planes and helicopters.

He had proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard in WWII.

His hobbies include flying remote controlled airplanes, operating a Ham radio, glass blowing, and visiting with friends at the Elwood Coffee Club.  Loving to travel, he and his second wife joined his daughter, Donna on several world travels on the Crystal Cruise Line.  Some of the countries they visited include Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal Zone.  Their travels also took them to several domestic cities.

Being an entrepreneur, he worked several jobs.  He first worked at the Arcadia Telephone Company, then started Hill's Studio Grand at Kokomo, IN, then brought back into existence the Arcadia Cheese Factory and lastly became the owner/operator of Hill's Asphalt Paving Company.

His memberships included the Noblesville Masonic Lodge, the Indianapolis Murat Shrine and York Rite.

He married Wilna W. (Smith) Hill in 1939.  She preceded him in death in 1970.  He then married Birdena (Campbell) Hill in 1974 and she recently passed away.  In addition to his wives and parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister: Pauline Hill, and brothers: Merle, Earl, and Paul Hill.

Surviving him are two daughters: Donna Cruzan of Noblesville, IN and Leann (Ron) Hill of Arcadia, IN, grandchildren: Brandon Hampton, Kamy (Tom) Wooldridge, Linsay (David) Hill, Misty (D.J.) Kelso, great-grandchildren: Drew Hampton, Makala Shelley, Andi Wooldridge, Nora Wooldridge, Kloey Blanke, and Bryson Kelso. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Hartley Funeral Home, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034 with Scott Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Arcadia Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
