Iona Straley Meeks

Iona Straley Meeks, age 90, of Tipton, IN passed away October 8, 2019 at her home.

She was born February 16, 1929 at Strawtown, IN to John Earl and Loretta (Hughes) Irion.  She was educated at Walnut Grove School, graduating with the Class of 1947.  She had worked from 1954 to 1989 at General Motors at Kokomo, IN.

She was married to Bud Straley and together they were parents of Gary (Jerry) Straley of Trafalgar, IN, Sandy Sue (Mike) Anderson of Tipton, IN,and Greg (Alyson) Straley of Arcadia, IN.  She later married Dick Meeks.  Both husbands and her daughter, Sandy preceded her in death.

Also preceding Iona in death are the following siblings: Ina McKinney, Ella Sutch, Eva Lawson, and Ethel Molina and a great grandchild: Joseph Richards.

Survivors include a brother: Edgar (Melva) Irion, grandchildren: Mike (Randi) Tomlinson, Christi Greer, Scott (Chloe) Straley and Tyler (Amanda) Straley, great-grandchildren: Terrell Richards, Bella, Faye, Lylah, Cali, Sophie and Penelope Straley and Lily Barclay, plus three great-great-grandchildren; Karson, Tinley, and Everly Richards.

Iona loved her family dearly and always enjoyed family gatherings. She also enjoyed holidays, especially Christmas time.  Leisure time would find her reading, crocheting, playing card games, garage saleing, and traveling.  She spent several winters in Florida.  Friends and family knew her as a fun person, joker, and very witty, yet she always called an ace an ace and a spade a spade.

A time of visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034.  Burial will occur at a later date at Carey Cemetery north of Noblesville, IN.
