John B. Leath

John B. Leath, age 90, of Attica, Indiana, died August 27, 2018 in Pinehurst, NC. 

He was born February 27, 1928 at Michigan City, IN to the late Samuel "Bus" Leath and Louis Blandford Leath. 

He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Radio Engineer in Communications.

He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor of science degree in Engineering and while at Purdue was a member of the marching band. 

John spent his career as a mechanical engineer at Harrison Steel at Attica, IN.  He was a member of the Indianapolis Sailing Club, American Legion #52, the AOPA United States of American Aviator FCC Amateur Radio Operator group and was awarded National Lightning Class Award Sailor.

He loved playing chess, building model airplanes and trains, scuba diving, sailing from the Great Lakes to the West Coast of Florida on his beloved sailboat, Tricia Ann, racing Lightening sail boats in worldwide competitions and traveling through Europe.

He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Scherer) Leath from the Hamilton County, IN area.  She preceded him in death on January 6, 2014. In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joanna Leath Ruhlman.

Surviving him are daughters: Joanna Leath (Brad) Williams of Chapel Hill, NC and Jennifer Leath of Jasper, IN, grandchildren: John Gladden and Jeffery Gladden both of South Bend, IN, Katherine Williams of Elizabeth City, NC and Samantha Williams of Charlotte, NC.  His family attested that John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.  He constantly taught those around him to aspire to greatness through his words and deeds.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034 with burial to follow at Cicero Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of the services.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.  You may send condolences at www.hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
