John Wesley Ward

John Wesley Ward, age 85, of Arcadia, IN passed away October 5, 2019 at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital.  He was born May 10, 1934 at Lincoln, Nebraska to Walter Wesley and Leotha Faye (Newton) Ward.

After receiving his education at Walnut Grove High School he joined the U.S. Navy.  He had worked in construction and soon became an owner and operator of John Ward Construction, Inc. He was well known in central Indiana for his excavation work.

John was also a seasoned pilot who loved to fly his Cherokee Piper airplane and Buckeye powered parachute.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his lake cottages on Middle Bass Island in Ohio.

He had served on the Hamilton County Sheriff's Merit Board from 1972 to 1983,  He was a member of Gideons International Association, Mid-America Threshing and Antiques, Inc., International Union of Operating Engineers, the NRA, and was a founding member of the Hamilton County Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club.

He was formerly married to Betty Irene (Sneed) Ward who survives him.  Also surviving is a daughter: Tammy Lou Farley of Arcadia and a son: Gary Joe Ward of Cicero, IN, grandchildren: John Wesley Farley and Andy James Farley both of Arcadia, IN, plus several nieces,   nephews and cousins.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Terri Sue Ward, sisters: Wanda Hall and Imogene Dixon, brothers: Joe Ward and Darrell "Bud" Ward.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Hartley Funeral Home, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034 with Pastor Jody Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at Carey Cemetery north of Noblesville, IN.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Middle Bass Fire Department, c/o P.I.B.
