Mary Ellen Lockwood

Mary Ellen Lockwood, age 89, of Atlanta, IN passed away July 31, 2019 at Tipton County Hospital.  She was born November 14, 1929 at Cicero, IN to Edgar Tillman and Terry Virginia (Hunt) Dick.

She was a graduate of Jackson Central High School with the Class of 1948.

She married Teddy Elsworth Lockwood on June 12, 1948.  He preceded her in death May 28, 2006.

Mary Ellen loved her role as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her family related that she was a great mom and a great cook.  She enjoyed working on word search books and in later years just sitting on her back porch in her rocking chair watching the rabbits, squirrels and birds.

Her working years began when she opened and managed Mary Ellen's Harvest Room, a popular restaurant in Arcadia, IN, that she ran for over ten years.  She later joined her husband as owner operators of Lockwood Trucking Company where she described her job as a co-pilot.  Lastly she returned to being a homemaker.

Mary Ellen was a member of the Arcadia Church of the Brethren.

Surviving her are two sons: Jerry (Peggy) Lockwood and Thomas (Lee Ann) Lockwood, both of Atlanta, IN, brothers: Keith Dick of Cicero, IN    and Carl Dick of Tipton, IN, sisters: Marge Roudebush of Noblesville, IN, Ester Kronenberg of Cicero, IN, Carolee Hartsock of Noblesville, IN and Jenny Harrison of Crawfordsville, IN.  

Additional survivors include grandchildren: Cari Bledsoe, Lori Lovell, Christy Fry, Melissa Welch, Tiffani Glover, Steffan Privett, and Bradlee Lockwood, plus 12 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Beverly Parker, great-great-granddaughter: Lillian Bledsoe, and brothers: Junior, Joe, Henry and Charles Dick.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Hartley Funeral Home, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN, 4034 with Pastor Mark Knapp officiating.  Burial will follow at Arcadia Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.  You may send condolences at http://www.hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
