Bernona Mae Waugh

Bernona Mae Waugh, age 85, of Cicero, Indiana passed away June 30, 2021 at Granbury, Texas where she had recently moved to be near her daughter.

She was born October 20, 1935 at Vandalia, Ohio to Merrill Martin and Mary Matilda (Banfill) Petry.  She was a graduate of Highland Academy in Fountain Head, Tennessee.

Bernona was a kind, gentle, caring lady who loved babies and children.  This was a great fit for her, because for over 40 years she cared for the new mothers and babies at Riverview Hospital.  Her family said she would even volunteer to work for others on holidays so she could rock the babies.  Prior to that she had served as a nurse's aide for almost 20 years.  She was known for helping others whenever she saw a need.

In later years she wintered in Florida and made many friends there, but never forgot her friends back in Indiana.  She loved family gatherings, especially seeing and interacting with her grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of Cicero Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She married William Everett Waugh on October 31, 1955.  He preceded her in death May 7, 1983. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son: Douglas Waugh, brother: John Austin Petry and a sister: Mary J. Aernie.

Surviving her is a daughter: Joyce Lynn Lehrmann of Granbury, TX and a son: Kenneth Merrill Waugh of Cicero, IN, sister: Madonna J. Moore of Anderson, IN, grandchildren: Audrey Leigh Spencer and Grace Marie Latty.  plus four great-grandchildren and a childhood friend that became a life-long special friend: Vivian Beam of Noblesville, IN.

Graveside rites will be held Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Cicero Cemetery, Cicero, IN where she will be buried beside her husband.  Arrangements are entrusted to Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel where you may send condolences at http://www.hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
