Christopher Sturgill Obituary

Christopher John Sturgill, age 49, of Windfall, IN passed away January 22, 2021 at Aperion Care in Marion, IN.

He was born October 18, 1971 at Pennington Gap, Virginia.  He went to work at a young age to help his family and continued  working and helping others his entire life.

He was employed as a metal welder and fabricator most of his adult life.

Chris, as he was fondly known, loved being outdoors.  He, with his wife and family was an avid camper. Since meeting his wife twenty years ago, they had enjoyed camping together.  When family came along their favorites involved canoeing at Turkey Run State Park or camping at France Park.  His wife attested that he was an outgoing person and never met a stranger.  He was always ready to help anyone in need that included assisting a stranded family or feeding them at his campsite. He often helped friends in need by opening his home and heart to them to give them assistance. He instilled this compassion for others in his children, teaching them to never turn away anyone, and to help them in whatever way they could.

He was a brutally honest person and at times hard and strict.  Some people he met did not understand his crude humor.  He taught his children that at times in this world you had to have "thick skin" and he tried to prepare them for whatever they would encounter. One of his sayings to them was "if you are going to be a bear, be a grizzly bear in life because only you can prevent your own forest fires.  You can extinguish it, replant and rebuild or you can ignore it and let it totally burn down".  He was witty and sharp-tongued and had become a Superman to many.  He was well loved and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife: Stacey Michelle (Stroup) Sturgill of Windfall, IN, mother: Judy Ann (Sturgill) Zollman of Beuna Vista, VA, sons: Xandril Hesson of Indianapolis, Gabriel Sturgill of Windfall, daughters: Ashlynn Nicole Lundsford and Samantha Cramer-Sturgill both of Veuna Vista, VA and Josephine Sturgill of Windfall, and a grandson: Matthew Cramer.

His family plans to have a celebration of life at a later date at the Windfall Christian Church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel where you may send condolences at http://www.hartleyfuneralhomes.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hartley Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 407, Cicero, IN 46034 to assist the family with funeral expenses.
