Daniel "Toj" Virgil Kerfoot, 72, of Noblesville, IN passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Riverview Health Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born January 1, 1946 at Noblesville, IN to Daniel Brad and Cathern Louise (Zetterberg) Kerfoot. Toj, as he was fondly known was a nickname given to him by his father the day he met him after returning home from World War II. He was a warm homecoming present from his loving wife.
Toj grew up as the third of six children. He was a supporting brother, friend, mentor and protector. He was a gifted athlete, woodcrafter, and musician. The brothers spent much time playing sports, and playing music together. They even had their own band.
He was a graduate of Jackson Central High School with the Class of 1964 and had served as his class president. Toj had a competitive nature. He was the first student athlete to earn 12 varsity letters, excelling at football, basketball, baseball and track.
After graduation Toj gained employment at Delco Remy at Anderson, IN where he worked for 34 years.
He shared his athletic ability with his three sons, volunteering his time coaching them in the Farm League Baseball Association at Arcadia, IN. His love of the outdoors resulted in taking his sons on fishing, camping and hunting trips and he carried on these traditions with his grandchildren on his dream farm that he built in Switzerland County, Indiana.
He is survived by his mother, sons: Daniel Lee (Joy) Kerfoot of Arcadia, Todd (Chanda) Kerfoot of Arcadia, and Jake Kerfoot of Noblesville, a sister: Nancy (Phil) Wicker of Carmel, brothers: Larry Kerfoot of Anderson, Pete (Deb) Kerfoot of Indianapolis, and sister-in-law: Mickie Kerfoot of Marble falls, TX. Also surviving are grandchildren: Joelle (Emma) Kerfoot, Jackson (Ashley) Kerfoot, Kayla Kerfoot, Dylan (Suzy) Kerfoot, Jesse Kerfoot and Kennedy Kerfoot, plus several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother: Barry Nelson Kerfoot, sister: Cathy Viola Kerfoot, and sister-in-law: Margie Kerfoot.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN 46034, with Pastor Ben Poole officiating. Burial will follow at Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of the services.
