Ivagene Smeltzer

Ivagene Smeltzer, age 95, of Arcadia, IN passed away February 7, 2020 at Miller's Merry Manor at Tipton, IN.

She was born January 8, 1925 at Cicero, IN to William Wesley and Florence Estelle (Lorenz) Revis.

She was a graduate of Cicero High School with the Class of 1943.  She then worked in the office of Langes-Kamp in Indianapolis.  On June 9, 1944 she married the love of her life, Charles Daniel Smeltzer,

Ivagene enjoyed her role as wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother.  She became adept at gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing and quilting.  She wrote beautiful poetry and uplifting letters.  She was also a talented musician that began in her playing a French Horn in the high school band. She learned to play the piano and organ and played both for services at her church.  Spare time would find her reading, drawing, sketching and painting.

She was an active member of Arcadia Church of The Brethren where served as a lifetime deacon, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.

Ivagene was appointed to the job of Clerk of the Town of Arcadia where she worked for a few years.  As she raised her family she also worked part time at Clark's Dime Store in Arcadia and a J.C. Penny Store in Tipton.

Surviving her is her husband: Charles Daniel Smeltzer, daughter: Carol Dee Tynes of Lapel, IN, sons: Stephen Charles Smeltzer of Whiteland, IN, William Michael Smeltzer of Indianapolis, IN and Brian Daniel Smeltzer of Clarks Hill, IN, sister: Nadine Kemp of Plainfield, IN, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her parents and a grandchild preceded in her death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Arcadia Church of the Brethren, 8989 East 266th Street, Arcadia, IN 46030 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Mark Knapp officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of the services. Burial will follow at Arcadia Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Arcadia Church of the Brethren.
