Jeannie Ecker Obituary

Jeannie Louise (Lenon) Ecker passed away peacefully the morning of September 4, 2021, with the love of her family surrounding her. She courageously battled Pancreatic Cancer for six years and two months.

Jeannie was born in Patagonia, Arizona on August 14, 1955 to her parents, Robert and Naomi Lenon, who predeceased her. She received her degree in elementary education at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, Arizona. During her teaching career, she taught elementary children in Mesa, Arizona; Hanau, Germany; Camp Zama, Japan; Subic Bay, Philippines; and Noblesville, Indiana. Later she served as a student teacher supervisor for several universities in Indiana, and then became a full time professor at Anderson University working with Transition to Teaching students and later undergraduate students. Regardless of the ages of her students, she enjoyed them all and worked tirelessly to ensure that they learned!!!

In addition to teaching, Jeannie loved to spend time with her family, travel, be involved with her local P.E.O. chapter and her church, Cicero United Methodist Church, visit with friends and neighbors, and so much more!

Jeannie was a loving wife and mother who will be remembered for making holidays and family gatherings special, for planning family trips that took us on many new adventures, and for caring deeply about her family as well as all of her friends, neighbors, colleagues, students, and church family.

Jeannie will be greatly missed by her husband of 33 years, Keith (whom she met in Japan while both were teaching overseas); daughter, Kerrie (Nicholas) Bond; brother, Robert “Bobby” (Nancie) Lenon III; sister, Janet Lenon; in-laws, Richard and Geneal Ecker; brother-in-law, Jerry (Ruth) Ecker; nieces, Eraine Lenon and Jessica (Dana) Sigler; grandnieces, Madison and Jillian; and grandnephews, Zander and Oscar.

A Celebration of Jeannie’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 2:00 pm, at Cicero Christian Church, 1715 Stringtown Pike, Cicero, Indiana. There will be an informal reception following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Cicero United Methodist Church, PO Box 617, Cicero, Indiana 46034 or the P.E.O.
