Jimmy Grider Obituary

Jimmy David Grider, age 69 of Arcadia, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2021 with his favorite nurse by his side, his granddaughter Alison Cowart.  They were enjoying one of the many things he loved, spending time together camping and hunting.

He was born in Somerset, Kentucky on February 9, 1952 to Norman and Mintie Grider.  His mother passed away due to complications from his birth and he was raised by his grandparents, Ulysses and Cecil Ashbrook in nearby Russell County where he attended Russell County Schools and was known as “Providence” by many.  He enjoyed hanging out at the local pool halls and became quite a pool shark.  He was married to Cathy Chapman on June 5, 1971 and they later moved to Noblesville, Indiana where be became employed by Firestone Industrial Products from which he retired after thirty years.  He had been employed by Morse Lake Marina as a night security guard for the last several years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed all outdoor activities and had passed that love of nature on to his children and grandchildren whom he absolutely adored.  He was affectionately known as “Pa” by them as well as their friends many of whom he taught to fish and hunt.  He helped coach his sons’ baseball team in his earlieryears as a father and enjoyed being the Number 1 fan at his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He was a very involved grandparent who has left his grandchildren many cherished memories.  He enjoyed time spent with family, whether it was kayak fishing on the river with his daughter or competitive fishing with his son at Bass Tournaments.  He taught his first grandson the love and respect for hunting and fishing and was by his side when he took his first deer and first turkey.  They always looked forward to the hunting season when they could share their excitement and love of nature together as they would spend days razzing each other about who would get the big buck.  He was also able to pursue his dream of bass fishing on a tournament trail sponsored by Ed Martin Toyota.

In addition to his wife of almost 50 years he is survived by a son Barry Grider (Sylvia), a daughter Lisa Grisell (Rob), two grandchildren, Alison Cowart (Josh) and Brett Grisell, three great grandchildren Josalin and Jaxson Cowart and Chase Grisell, and a sister Jean Henderson of Hope, Indiana.
