John Michael Sweigart, 62, of Atlanta, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 23, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in New Castle, Indiana to Ron and Phyllis Sweigart who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his stepfather, Fred Sweigart, brother Gary Sweigart, nephew Jason Sweigart and wife Stacy. He is survived by his loving wife of almost thirty-eight years, Lucy. Also a sister, Ronda Shaffer (Hurshel Hankenhoff) of Rushville, Indiana, a brother, Dale (Cindy) Sweigart of New Castle, Indiana and stepmother, Barb Watt of Richmond, Indiana along with several nieces and nephews.
He took an early retirement from his position as a machine repairman at Chrysler Kokomo late in 2020 due to his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He fought a long hard battle but his faith in God and his sense of humor never wavered. John never met a stranger. He loved people and especially loved getting together with friends and family with good food and lots of laughter. His nickname "Happy" fit him so well. He always looked for the good in every situation. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His many hobbies included golfing and bowling himself as well as watching sporting events of all kinds. He always looked forward to the annual golfing trips he took with his brother and cousins. They liked to go visit different golf courses and different states each year. He had a passion for anything with wheels and had quite the collection over the years. In his free time he and Lucy could often be found on their Harley motorcycle doing poker runs for charities or just cruising the lake on their pontoon boat. They were truly soulmates.
