Mark Stevens Obituary

Mark Jasper Stevens, age 65, of Indianapolis, IN,  passed away August 14, 2021 at the home of his sister in Cicero, IN with his family at his side.

He was born December 15, 1955 at Birmingham, England to Myron Gail and Anna (Pessl) Stevens.  He was raised in Indianapolis and attended Indianapolis Public Schools, graduating from John Marshall High School with the Class of 1973.

He soon found employment as a carpenter and worked in that field until he was injured in an accident.  Being an outgoing person he then began working with a company that had him selling advertising.  From there he moved on to the printing business.  Being a quick learner, he soon started his own business that became known as First Class Printing in Indianapolis.  He operated this business for over twenty years and retained many customers who also became friends over the years.  Only failing health required him to recently close his business.

He was the third born of seven children and the first male child born in the Stevens family.  After chores were done, the young family was entertained by playing the game of cribbage with their parents.  As the children grew older, their father taught them the game of poker.  Mark became very astute at this game.  He began playing poker games with his friends.  This evolved into him hosting weekly games with some well known and well connected people.  Mark also networked with several people and his connections enabled him to fill needed niches for others.

Mark also played an integral part in the Patriotic Fireworks Company.  He worked from May through July 4th each year.  He helped prepare the stores in getting ready to open and managed one each year.

Mark was the father of a son whom he raised as a single father from babyhood.  He and his sister Susie were devoted in their care and special needs of their sister, Connie.  They both loved their family and especially enjoyed holiday times and family gatherings.

Surviving him is a son: Mark Eugene Stevens of Indianapolis, IN, brothers: Ronnie Stevens of North Carolina, Rickie Stevens of California, sisters: Susie Bishop of Cicero, IN, Jeannie Stevens of California and Connie Stevens of Indianapolis, grandchildren: Tyler Hart and Bryce Stevens and a great-grandchild: Graham Hart.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents is a sister: Christie Stevens.
