Matt D. Flanigan

Matt D. Flanigan, age 86, of Noblesville, IN and formerly of Arcadia, IN passed away August 23, 2021 at Riverview Health at Noblesville, IN.  He was born July 25, 1935 at Kyles Ford, Tennessee to James and Mae (Johnson) Flanigan.

Matt was a Korean War Veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army and was proud of his country and his service.

Matt was a life-long meat cutter and became the owner/operator of Arcadia Meats and Meat Locker.  He processed meats for many farmers and also sold meat at his business.  He also was owner and operator of Flanigan Septic and Backhoe Company, plus he became a landlord as he purchased houses.

He was involved with the Atlanta (Indiana) Gun Club, he cut all the meat and made the sausage for the Tipton Pork Festival for 19 years, did many fundraising events for the town of Arcadia, and raised money for the Arcadia Children's Home.  He also served on the Arcadia Town Board.

In addition to working hard, he also had many interests and his favorites were: camping, car racing, antique automobiles, old tractors, gas engines, cooking pork chops, roasting hogs, and talking to people in person or on the telephone.  He had many sayings that were truly one of a kind and he was an extraordinary storyteller.

Matt was very outgoing and never met a stranger.  His friends, family, and those who worked for him said he was compassionate, kind, generous and had a heart of gold.  He was a gentle giant in disguise who will be sorely missed.

Matt married Jacklyn Ruth (Lake) Flanigan on November 14, 1982.  She survives him.  Also surviving are three children: Robin (George) Leer of Bloomfield, Iowa, Susan (Alex) Flanigan-Trujillo of Tipton, IN, John (Stephanie) Flanigan of Downing, Missouri, step-children: Jenna (Tony) Majors of Cicero, IN and Travis Barrickman of Noblesville, IN, 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son: Michael Flanigan, five sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Arcadia Christian Church, 26901 State Road 19, Arcadia, IN 46030 with burial to follow at Arcadia Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. also at the Church.  Hartley Funeral Homes is entrusted with Matt's care and where you may send condolences at http://www.hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
