Sandra Castor Obituary

Sandra Alvaline (Howard)-Carney/Castor passed away at Community Hospital North at the age of 83 on January 6th, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends.  She was born on November 17th, 1940, in the Mars Hill suburb in the southeastern corner of Indianapolis, IN, to Alvin & Dorothy Howard.  She had one sister, Alvinine.  After some minor location shuffling as tenant farmers, her family settled down in Cicero Indiana.  After some small two room schoolhouse learning she completed her education by graduating in 1958 at Jackson Central High School in Arcadia IN.

She married her first love Kenneth “Gene” Carney and established roots on old state road 19, just south of Cicero, where she welcomed the lives or her first two children, son Kenneth Marcus Carney (1961-2020) and daughter Deborah Jean Carney (1969 – present).  After Gene’s unfortunate and untimely death in 1969 from leukemia, she was introduced to Thomas Castor and welcomed her third son, Wesley Howard Castor (1971 – present).  She was divorced in 1980 and raised her children as a single mom.  She would utilize her knowledge of accounting, (and connections she made while supporting her community through volunteer work that she liked to pursue), to make ends meet and finish raising her children on her own.

After her final child “left the nest”, she met the last love of her life in 1993 a Mr. Roscoe K Hobbs of Fishers IN, (a former and fellow ’58 graduate from Jackson Central HS) and settled down for the last time to cherish the lives, loves and hugs of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents Alvin & Dorothy Howard, her sister Alvinine Howard Robinson and her oldest son Kenneth Marcus Carney.

She is survived by her living and loving partner of 30 years, Roscoe K Hobbs, daughter: Deborah Jean (Carney)-Pryor/Herrel & husband George Herrel, son: Wesley Howard Castor and Wife Diana Castor, extended family Jim & Lynette Hobbs and David & Lisa Hobbs, grandchildren: Amber & Brady Kaufman, Ashly Pryor & Rob Notter, Michael & Abby Pryor, Dani Pryor, Shelby Hobbs, Tucker Castor, Samantha Castor, Nick Hobbs, Josh Hobbs, Danielle & Derek Bifulco, and great grandchildren: Sabena, Laurelai, & Tobias Kaufman; Rinley Pryor; and JD, Cole, & Rey Bifulco.
