Shirley Cain Obituary

Shirley Louann Cain, age 83, of Cicero, Indiana passed away November 17, 2021 at Hooverwood Living in Indianapolis, IN.

She was born August 13, 1938 near Wolcott, Indiana to Edward and Irene (Farney) Lehman.  She was raised on a dairy farm with five brothers and three sisters.  She attended schools in Wolcott, Indiana and graduated from Wolcott High School with the Class of 1957.  She then furthered her education earning a BS and a MS degree in education from Indiana University.  Shirley then proceeded to teach science classes at Kokomo middle schools for thirty years.

She married Jon David Cain on February 14, 1981 and together they had a very rich, fulfilling life.  In addition to teaching she also sold real estate on a part time basis.  She learned the art of basket making and that resulted in her teaching basket making classes.  She also enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful heirloom pieces.  In her spare time she loved to do needlepoint, crochet, make her own candles and work with stained glass.

Shirley and Jon were Advanced Master Gardeners and that resulted in them creating outstanding landscapes and planting hundreds of trees, shrubs and flower beds.

Living in the country, Shirley and Jon also had a large garden and from that garden Shirley canned and froze much of the produce.  They were also beekeepers and that became a small business as they eventually packaged and sold approximately 400 pounds of honey each year.  Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were very special to them and Shirley and Jon served their family with bountiful meals that included food from their garden.

Shirley and her husband were very active in their church, mission work, Habitat for Humanity and Wheeler Mission.  They were a very giving couple and assisted many that were in need.  They were members of Grace Community Church and Genesis Church, both of Noblesville, IN.

Surviving her are sons: Jeffrey Justice of Coldwater, MI, Gerry Justice of Indianapolis, IN and Mickey Justice of Elwood, IN, step children: Melissa (Cain) Justice of Indianapolis, IN, Jeffrey Cain of Portland, IN, and David Cain of Farmington NM, brothers: Russell Lehman of Solon, Iowa, Harold Lehman of Wolcott, IN and Nathan Lehman of Bloomington, IL, sisters: Mary Baumgartner of Bluffton, IN, Marjean Dawson of Peoria, IL, and Annetta Rodkey of Danville, IN, many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, is a son: Michael Justice and her beloved husband, Jon who just passed away October 26th. She also lost two brothers Wayne Lehman and Verne Lehman.
